Gerwin Pol is a experienced Boardroom-level sourcing advisor with over 15 years experience in business and IT strategy, and has worked on a full range of sourcing assignments spanning all phases of the sourcing lifecycle. Gerwin is Managing Director of Whitebridge Consulting & Interim Management and co-founder of Whitebridge. As Managing Director, Gerwin is working with clients to bridge the gap between business and IT, and clients and their suppliers. In this he is working with clients directly as Program Manager / Sourcing Director and with leading Sourcing Advisors in senior roles as sales pursuit and engagement manager for large sourcing engagements.

As Sourcing Program Manager at Delta Lloyd Group, reporting to the CIO and part of the MT of IT Operations & Sourcing department, Mr. Pol lead a team of professionals (total Program budget is 3 –4 Million in 2008, spanning an external spend of 120 million Euro) in:
- Designing and implementing the new central organization for IT supply and supply management of external suppliers (IT Operations & Sourcing/IOS). This program included selecting and appointing managers and team leaders and recruiting staff and transforming the current immature and distributed practices to a mature partner for Delta Lloyd Group’s external suppliers and business management.
- Defining and implementing the new IT Sourcing Strategy. This included restructuring the current Infrastructure deal (approx. 60+ million per annum), and setting up new contracts and relationships for applications services. The new partnerships closed, included a new Testing partner and restructuring the relationship for Java Software Development and Maintenance. Both deals were set up to benefit from Global Sourcing.
Gartner Consulting (2000 to 2006)
Mr. Pol worked as a Director with Gartner Consulting and was based in the Dutch office. He was responsible for developing and building the Strategic Sourcing Practice in the Netherlands. Mr. Pol had both commercial and practice development responsibilities. During the 6 years he worked for Gartner, he build the sourcing team in the Netherlands from 1 to 8 dedicated people generating more than 3 million Euros per annum.
Mr. Pol helped many clients on strategic IT issues and Sourcing, spanning the full sourcing lifecycle; sourcing strategy, selection and evaluation, contract development and sourcing management, covering infrastructure outsourcing, application outsourcing, Offshore and BPO.
Nolan, Norton & Co., Former Business and IT Strategy practice of KPMG (1994 to 2000)
As a senior consultant with the Dutch practice of Nolan Norton & Co, Mr. Pol has carried out projects in Business (Process) Re-engineering, the strategic use of IT and IT governance, and the management of internal and external IT service providers. At Nolan Norton he was responsible for the competence center IT. In this role he managed the product development in the area of strategic use of IT, IT Strategy, IT Governance and IT Outsourcing.
Examples of prior engagements
- For a client in the Financial Services Industry, Mr. Pol managed an engagement to define the sourcing strategy the application development and maintenance. This project resulted in a sourcing strategy aligned with its new business and application architecture, improving the client’s readiness for future change.
- For a client in the Energy Sector Mr. Pol led a program for the CIO to transform the IT organization. This included redesign of the IT Organization and multiple outsourcing deals, the IT Infrastructure, WAN services (more than 1600 nodes) and SAP development and maintenance.
- For a worldwide innovative leader in the packaging industry Mr. Pol led an engagement, working with the client team to assess their sourcing strategy and evaluate their current relationship. As a result of this project he was asked to support the client in the rebuilding and restructuring the relationship with the incumbent supplier and a refocusing of their sourcing strategy, freeing up scarce resources and realizing considerable cost savings against the previous contract. Mr. Pol was the trusted advisor to the companies CIO and management team over the period of more than 5 years.
- Mr. Pol managed the consulting team responsible for developing a sourcing strategy and market positing for a ‘White Label’ Securities Back Office provider. As a result of this, he was asked to support the client team in defining and implementing the sourcing relationships with an infrastructure provider and the offshore application provider.
- For a leading Pan European player in the
Information, Communication and Entertainment (ICE) industry Mr. Pol was project manager for the design and implementation of the IT governance structure and IT strategy at corporate level. His project was responsible for setting the preconditions for the transformation from a financial holding of traditional local cable operations to a leading Pan European digital media company.
- Mr. Pol supported a large Dutch bank in the redesign of their mortgage process. In this project, direct tangible results were required with regard to a reduction in the effort demanded by the mortgage process within the organization. He was responsible for developing the long term IT and process solutions.
- Mr. Pol supported several teams of a market leader in the petrochemical industry in the translation of a new retail strategy into a new organizational structure and processes. This project covered all of the client’s retail activities whereby the organization needed to change from a traditional petrol sales organization to a modern “convenience retailer” with innovative market concepts.
- Mr. Pol supported a pension fund in selection and contract negotiations for infrastructure services.
