Alexander Dortland is an experienced strategic ICT Consultant and programme manager. He specializes on programme management, transition management, IT Architecture management and Innovation management. Alexander is Managing Director of Whitebridge Consulting & Interim Management. As Managing Director, Alexander is working with clients to bridge the gap between business and IT, and clients and their suppliers.

Alexander has over 15 years of experience in strategic business and IT projects. He has had multiple roles and has carried out multiple projects in Strategic Sourcing, IT and Innovation management and IT Architecture management. He has experience in a wide range of industries including, Sourcing Suppliers, Financial Services, Education and Telecoms.

Before joining Whitebridge in 2010, he was Transition Manager Sourcing at Delta Lloyd Group and programme manager at INHOLLAND and Leiden University Colleges. Alexander specializes in complex programmes in complex environments. Alexander is focussed on creating business value and innovation. He easily understands strategic sourcing and architectural success factors drives results by getting things done.

Before working as self-employed IT Consultant and programme manager he has worked as business consultant for KPMG Consulting.

Alexander is co-author of a book on creating business value through IT and communication media, has published multiple articles, and presented on numerous occasions on sourcing and innovation related topics.


Representative engagements

  • Alexander has been Transition project manager for a global top-5 sourcing supplier, transitioning European Datacenter infrastructure for a large Dutch trading company. The outsourcing project is part of a large corporate restructuring programme. Responsible for managing 6 teams – in 18 sub projects – setting up the complete datacenter infrastructure (AS400, RS6000 and Windows). Further implemented the Tivoly systems management, messaging, site server and desktop environments.
  • Engagement management for large supplier bid to manage large number of Sun servers on for Banking retail management. The offering includes a project plan and a cost estimate for transitioning and managing these servers, as well as a detailed transition plan (technical verification, installation of systems monitoring , creating service levels).
  • For UWV (Dutch national social security organization) leading a programme for setting up and sourcing internet&intranet infrastructure. Intranet for 30.000 employees; internet for 10 million clients. Leading a team of architects mapping business requirements to technical architecture and service requirements. Leading sourcing approach and vendor selection. Also leading teams of business consultants implementing business processes using the internet infrastructure.
  • Alexander has been leading a 3 teams of architects, service managers and project managers (both from client, old supplier and new supplier) for a Dutch insurance company in setting up a transition project for  the telematics services and infrastructure for this company.
  • Alexander has been leading a large datacenter migration & redesign programme for one of the top-3 education organizations in the Netherlands. Leading a large team of architects, service managers and technicians from both client and supplier. Scope is server infra, storage networks and data networks. Redesign and migration are focused on achieving high availability and higher service levels.
